Mike will teach a basic, 2-day, beginning carving Seminar on Saturday & Sunday during the Show/Sale. This is a super Seminar, and a must, if you are just getting started in carving or have carved for only a short time. The Seminar will cover carving knives, safety, use and selection of other (U & V) tools, sharpening, character eyes, hair, sanding and finishing (painting). Students will carve one or more small projects to learn basic knife cuts, learn to work with wood grain, and select projects ranging from very easy to more challenging. Students should have a carving project finished or nearly finished by the end of the Seminar. Mike asks you to bring a carving knife and a carving glove if you have one or bring what you have. Instructor will loan you the tools you need. It is recommended you bring paper & pencil to take notes. First-time carvers who have never been a TWG member before (new Guild members only), the Guild will pay for this Seminar. Blanks are provided at no cost. ***NOTE: EVEN THOUGH THE GUILD WILL PAY FOR THE COST OF THE SEMINAR FOR NEW GUILD MEMBERS, THE NEW MEMBER WILL HAVE TO PAY $25 FOR MEMBERSHIP DUES & A $25 EVENT REGISTRATION FEE AT THE TIME THEY SIGN UP FOR THE BEGINNER CARVING SEMINAR***. If you are not new to the Guild, the cost of the 2-day Seminar is $20. Refer questions to Mike via email: mkkmduhon@hotmail.com or call him at (409) 935-8551.
