- Project Cottonwood bark one per project. Additional cottonwood bark at additional cost
Supplies Needed
- Carving knife & safety glove, 3/32 v-tool, needle file set (may be purchased from instructor for $10.00), Pin vise with small drill bits, 1/8” & 1/4” #1 chisels, 5/8” #7 U-gouge. For Church class, only bring drafting compass, ruler & large metal file.
Bark House (of your choice) Carving
We are happy to have Aaron & Andy back for their fourth year of teaching at TWG. The Mayer brothers have been published in Wood Carving Illustrated. Together they have won several top prizes in carving competitions & have also been featured instructors at several woodcarving events. Aaron & Andy will be working together to teach you the bark carving project of your choice. Student will learn to design, carve, shape & detail these fun projects. Each will improve or give you new skills, like joining two pieces of bark together for a near seamless fit. Cost is $60.00 a day and includes materials. Choose as many days as meet your needs. Projects are:
ONE (1) DAY recommended for each these projects (1 & 2).
1- A SMALL WHIMSICAL BARK HOUSE NIGHTLIGHT COVER/WALL HANGER.
2- OUTHOUSE IN THE ROUND. Carve the outside, the inside & add plenty of detail for a rustic look, including an opening door.
TWO (2) DAYS recommended for each of these projects (3, 4 & 5).
3- COTTAGE from two pieces of bark & joined together for a near seamless fit & a tree if time allows. 4- FAIRY-TAIL HOUSE or MUSHROOM HOUSE carved from two pieces of cottonwood bark & shaped to burl or knot.
5- TREE HOUSE out of two pieces of cottonwood bark shaped around a piece of found wood for the trunk.
THREE (3) DAYS is recommended for this project (6).
6- CHURCH. This project may be a bit challenging, but it will help take your skill to the next level. Student will begin with a piece of cottonwood bark cut out to basic shape of a church. You will learn new & different techniques to create your own customized details, using ideas from pictures of churches that will be provided.
