- Basic supplies are furnished by the Instructor. The cost of the cane blank will range from $10 to $50, dependent on what you choose.
Supplies Needed
- Sharp detail knife and small gouge(s). NOTE: Wood burners are NOT required for these Seminars; however, if the student would like to use them, they are welcome to bring their wood burner and use them on their cane.
Carving Fine Canes (multiple types of wood to select from)
Larry Wolterstorff, from Prescott, AZ is back to the 2023 TWG Spring Round-up! He will be teaching five 1-day Seminars (Monday through Friday) on how to carve a fine finished cane that you or someone you love will prize for years to come. Larry recommends 2 To 5 Days, depending on your carving skills. However, all level of carvers is welcome, beginners to advanced. Larry has spent years perfecting his techniques on carving & assembling canes. He will assist students in selecting a stick, a pattern, tip & handle for their cane. He will then teach students how to carve it, assemble it, & apply the finish on it. He uses a variety of different types of wood such as basswood, black walnut (from Oregon), Poplar, Figured Maple, some Burls, & Cherry. In some cases, he uses some exotic woods, such as Zebra, Wenge, Spalted Tamarind, Mable & Granadillo. Some of these woods are hard to obtain, so Larry suggests you contact him on (928) 445-8794 as soon as you sign up for his Seminar(s) & let him know what you want, so he can attempt to have it on hand for you.
