Native American Style Flutes

Each Seminar will be 1-day. Please note: you DO NOT need to read music to play these flutes. One pre-tuned flute kit will be provided. Flutes are pre-tuned to either "A", "G", of "F" sharp. The difference in the flutes is for the hand size of beginning flute players. Flutes in the key of "A" can be played more easily by people with small hands. "F" sharp will feel more comfortable for those with big hands. "G" is the recommended beginning flute. The Seminar will involve shaping your flute by using only sandpaper and planers, which will be provided. Students will then decorate the flute. If time permits & the student so desires, the block can be carved (bring your carving knife). The block is what directs the breath into the flute. It is generally carved into a simple, stylized animal. Kent will assist you with this step and also teach you the basics of flute playing, so you will be able to show off your new skill by the end of the day. This is a new Seminar at TWG & it should prove to be a lot of fun. Donnie took this class in Creede, Colorado and had a wonderful experience.
